The Platypep venom project, funded by AusHealth since 2016, has taken another step toward creating an Australian-made version of Ozempic.

The research team has successfully identified a ‘hero peptide’ – derived from platypus venom – that reduces food intake, prevents weight gain and improves metabolic health in mice.

We celebrated seven exceptional PhD students working on cutting-edge research in cell and biological therapies at a formal presentation last week. They each won $10,000.

Thanks to Professor Glenn King, who gave a fascinating snapshot of his research – turning novel peptides found in spider venoms into life-saving drugs for heart disease, stroke, epilepsy and more.
