ClinMAPS Pro App
{
The ClinMAPS PRO application helps clinicians assess the progress of light to severe burn scars.
The technology was inspired on the published work, Matching Assessment using Photographs with Scars (MAPS), developed by Margot Masters and Margaret McMahon – therapists working with burns patients at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
According to Senior Occupational Therapist with the Adult Burn Service at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Tanja Klotz, the ClinMAPS app assesses the severity of patient burns though comparative photos, ultimately scoring “how active” the scar is.
Other scar rating systems use numbers or words to describe a scar’s appearance. However, as every scar is unique, ClinMAPS’ photo feature provides a stronger comparison.
This technology ultimately leads to more patient understanding and control in their physical appearance, and for the correct determination of burn treatment.
The ClinMAPS app, in addition to the hardcopy sold by the Royal Adelaide Hospital, allows the research to be more readily available to clinicians and therapists worldwide – ultimately benefitting more patients across the globe.
AusHealth Research funded the development of the app and guided it toward a successful release on the iOS App Store in December 2018.
